June 8, 2006: Kevin Burns Talks About Singer and Superman

Kevin Burns, the director of the up-coming "Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman" documentary was interviewed by FanboyPlanet.com in an extensive 2-part article in which he discusses the documentary and how he and Bryan came to agreeing to make it together. Here's part of what he had to say about their first discussions...

"He said "I want you to do the definitive documentary on the history of Superman."

"I want us to do it together. It's very important to me. I would love to work with you, I've always wanted to work with you," and I said "I've always wanted to work with you. I've never forgiven myself for turning down the gig to produce your first feature."

He said, "we need a point of view. If we're going to do this, it has to have a hook, it has to have a point of view."

I said, "it has a point of view."

He looked at me like, "I just told you about this, how could you have a point of view already?"

"The story of Superman is the story of America. He's the ultimate immigrant. He comes from another planet. He's trying to assimilate. It's his dilemma. He can never really become one of us, even though he tries."

Bryan was getting more and more excited. He was building up like a volcano as I was talking to him.

"Look, Up in the Sky!" airs in shortened form on Monday, June 12 on A&E, but on June 20 Warner Brothers will release the full version of the documentary on DVD as part of their Superman Day in which we all go broke buying DVDs related to the Man of Steel.

UPDATE: Access Hollywood has released a snippet from a recent show where they take a brief glimpse at the A&E documentary "Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman". While mainly focusing on Christopher Reeve's audition for the 1978 role, the online video does give us a quick glimpse of Brandon Routh's audition footage as well.
