The local newspaper in Margaretville (in New York's Delaware county) reports that George E. Harris II, best known to Superman fans as Officer Mooney in "Superman: The Movie", died on December 29, 2005 aged 84.

George, a World War II veteran, had a long career as an actor and director, working on Broadway, on television and radio, as well as in movies.

Born in Bronxville on April 12, 1921, George is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and three nephews.

Superman fans will fondly remember him as Officer Mooney as he reports to his Sergeant, "Sergeant, I swear! Flying! With a big red cape! And bright red boots as well! Then, quick as a wink - he was gone! Flew up in the air again, he did. Like a big blue bird."
