Who's Who in the Superman Comics

Blackbriar Thorn

Blackbriar Thorn was a leader of the ancient Druids. As such, he was wielded great powers and responsibilities. However, Thorn's sect was slain by the overwhelming Roman Empire. Attempting to elude the conquerors, Blackbriar Thorn transformed himself into solid wood, with the hopes of blending in with the trees and the surrounding forest. His ruse worked, but a group of Druids, in a final effort to defend themselves, created a magic upheavel of the land, causing Thorn's form to be taken into the earth.

Centuries later, Blackbriar Thorn's body was unearthed by a famous archaeologist. His body was put on display at The Gotham City Museum of History. Awakening in a new land with his ancient powers intact, Thorn went on a rampage throughout Gotham City. Fortunately, Superman and The Demon Etrigan were on hand to stop Thorn, and for an extended period, the villain remained in obscurity.

Recently, Blackbriar Thorn reemerged, this time as a member of the latest incarnation of The Injustice Society. The Injustice Society was ultimately defeated by The Justice Society of America, but Blackbriar Thorn escaped. Fully adept to master modern society, Blackbriar Thorn has set his sights on the original Green Lantern. Alan Scott, the Green Lantern of the Golden Age, is incapacitated by wood, which is unaffected by his emerald energy. With this knowledge, Blackbriar Thorn intends to be the ultimate slayer of The original Green Lantern.
