The Batman Family

Like the Superman Family, the Batman Family is the catch-phrase for Batman and his close allies who share his mission to protect Gotham City, and share his bat-motiff.

The Original Batman Family:

The original Batman Family included The Batman himself, Robin the Boy Wonder, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Batwoman (secretly Kathy Kane), Bat-Girl (secretly Betty Kane), Bat-Mite, and Ace the Bat-Hound. In a more simpler era, the Batman Family stood vigilant over Gotham City, and routinely assisted Superman in saving not only Gotham, but the world.

The Classic Batman Family:

Assisting the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin, there emerged Batgirl (secretly Barbara Gordon) - who unlike the first Bat-Girl - is a fulltime super-hero. Man-Bat, originally more of a misunderstood adventurer and less of a monster, was also a close ally of The Dark Knight. Along with Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, this classic incarnation of The Batman Family made a lasting impression on generations of fans and Gotham City residents.

Another member of the Batman Family was The Huntress. From Earth-Two, this heroine was the crimefighting alter ego of Helena Wayne - the daughter of the deceased Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle. The Huntress was an official member of the Justice Society of America, and frequently teamed-up with out Batman to fight evil. Their bond was so close that Helena referred to The Caped Crusader as "Uncle Bruce".

Honorable Mention:

Over time, several adventurers and heroes can truly be referred to as honorary members of The Batman Family. These adventurers and crime-fighters have frequently teamed with Batman over the years, and some share true friendships with The Dark Knight. This list of heroes includes the following:

  • Fatman
  • Batman 1,000,000
  • Brane Taylor - The Batman of the 31st Century
  • BRANE - The first Batman of the Future
  • Black Canary
  • Wildcat
  • The Phantom Stranger
  • The Demon
  • The Creeper
  • Deadman
  • The Elongated Man
  • Catwoman (?)
  • Green Arrow
  • Zatanna the Magician
  • Onyx
  • The Batmen of the World (including The Gaucho, The Legionary, The Musketeer, The Ranger, The Knight and Squire, and Wingman)
  • The Green Lantern (Alan Scott)
  • The Outsiders (Black Lightning, Metamorpho the Element Man, Katana, Geo-Force, and Halo)
  • Slam Bradley

Although this may seem like an incredible list, each of the heroes named have truly close ties to The Dark Knight, and have repeatedly assisted Batman in protecting Gotham City.
