Who's Who in the Superman Comics

Cadmus Project

A secret government genetics research project near and underneath Metropolis. The Cadmus project has been based under a nearby mountain range in Kirby county and connected to aqueduct tunnels that went underneath Metropolis. Designed to discover the secrets of DNA, the Cadmus scientists, once including Dabney Donavan, have had several cloning projects. Resulting from these projects were the Hairies (intelligent beings who lived in a nearby site called the Habitat, and then the Zoomway within a vehicle called the Mountain of Judgment), the DNAliens (including the telepathic human Dubbilex), and the Guardian (a clone of retired cop Jim Harper) who has been head of Cadmus's security. Under the influence of an alien being called Sleez, clones of Cadmus' scientists were created who became the young Newsboy Legion. Superman met the Guardian, Newsboy Legion, Dubbilex, Hairies, and saw the Cadmus project when helping free the scientists from the control of Sleez. After attempts to clone Superman failed following his apparent death, Cadmus managed to create a new superhero clone, Superboy. During Lex Luthor's attack on Metropolis, the Cadmus Project cloning facilities were disclosed to the public and the facilities heavily damaged.
