Who's Who in the Superman Comics

SKULL

One of Metropolis's major subversive criminal organizations, Skull attempted to achieve global power, and compete with the likes of The 100, Intergang, and The H.I.V.E. The evil empire known as Skull was continuously thwarted in its endeavors by Superman. It wasn't until Dr. Albert Michaels began to work with them, that Skull gained a foothold in super villainy. Utilizing advanced technology stolen from S.T.A.R. Labs, the gangsters made several inroads into the criminal elite of Metropolis.

At the pinnacle of his reign, Michaels (who was a founding scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs) endowed super powers, with which he used to become the original Atomic Skull. Defeated by Superman, the Atomic Skull soon departed from Skull, and began a single-minded, futile campaign to eradicate The Man of Steel. Without Michael's stewardship, Skull floundered. Only after an extended hiatus did Skull reemerge as a major crime syndicate. It began establishing bases across the country, in places like Texas, Florida, and California. The Skull Syndicate even waged a major war against another major criminal empire: the forces that serve Kobra, the international insurrectionist and terrorist. While Skull has not faced Superman in most recent times, it is possible, and highly inevitable - that The Metropolis Marvel will confront Skull once more.
