Who's Who in the Superman Comics

Satanus, Lord

A demonic entity and brother of Blaze. His current mortal guise is respectable Collin Thornton, head of Newstime magazine in Metropolis. Long ago, Satanus' sister Blaze exiled him from her dimension. Superman first encountered Satanus when Blaze tried using Superman and the suicidal Sam Foswell, former editor of the Daily Planet in an attempt to kill Satanus. Recently, Lord Satanus tricked Superman into believing Satanus helped Superman by stopping the use of the mutagenic drug DMN (an addictive drug that transforms addicts into strange monsters) in Metropolis, but Satanus didn't disclose he had created the drug.

Satanus reappeared in Metropolis soon after the B13 upgrade in an attempt to take over the soul of the city, until Superman offered his soul in place of that of Metropolis (AOS #586). However, with Lois's help, Superman is able to save both Metropolis and himself.

First Appearance (Collin Thornton): Adventures of Superman #460 (Nov. 1989)
First Appearance (Lord Satanus): AOS #493 (Aug. 1992)
