March 31, 2005: Superman to Generate $100m for NSW

News.com.au have posted the following story on how the making of "Superman Returns" will generate money for the local economy...

FILMING of the latest Superman movie will generate more than $100 million for the NSW economy and create in excess of 10,000 jobs, the State Government said today.

NSW Treasurer Dr Andrew Refshauge said Warner Bros had today given the green light to the shooting of Superman Returns, the prequel to the two hit 1980s films based on the super-powered character.

"It's going to be one of the biggest film projects ever made in Australia - bigger than the Matrix trilogy," Dr Refshauge said.

The movie, starring Man of Steel Brandon Routh, is to be filmed predominantly at Sydney's Fox Studios.

But pre-production of the film began at a property in the rural NSW town of Breeza, 45km outside of Tamworth.

The property has been transformed into the Kansas family home where young Clark Kent grew up before taking on his Superman identity.

"This is one of the best examples of our international reputation as a film-friendly state," Dr Refshauge said.

(Note: NSW = New South Wales. NSW is a state in Australia. Sydney is the capital of NSW)
