April 10, 2005: Margot Kidder Interview

The UK Metro Newspaper published an interview with Margot Kidder recently, here's an excerpt from that interview...

Q: You're best remembered for playing Lois Lane in the Superman films. Do you look back on them fondly?

A: The first Superman film took up such a huge chunk of our lives but it was a wonderful, incredible time for all of us. We were young, my daughter was little, we were filming in London for a year and so we became like a close family. I'm now in the extraordinary position where my wonderful grandchildren, who are the light of my life, can watch me in Superman - that's a special gift the gods gave me. I've scored enormous points with my three-year-old grandson because his grandma is friends with Superman.

Q: Is it true they wrote you out of Superman III because you fell out with the producers?

A: That's true. They fired director Richard Donner because they didn't want to pay him and he is the reason that the franchise became so successful in the first place. There's a big part of Superman II that he did that no one has ever seen. Instead of being smart about it, I said some rude things about the producers in a magazine interview. Warner Brothers told them I had to be in Superman III because of contractual reasons but they wrote Lois out by sending her on vacation to Bermuda. I had 12 lines and one of them was: 'Oh Clark'.
