November 24, 2001: "Smallville" in Canada

"Smallville" finally premiered in Canada last night. Here's an excerpt from an article published last week in the Vancouver Sun, titled "Super series expands horizon" and written by Alex Strachan:

Critically acclaimed Smallville opens on network TV

Faster than a speeding SkyTrain, stronger than a B.C. Lions linebacker, able to leap downtown Vancouver buildings in a single bound -- it's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's not even Superman, really, but Clark Kent as a teenager in Smallville.

Smallville is a television series retelling of the Superman myth from the point of view of the superhero-in-waiting as a brooding, angst-ridden, high-school hunk growing up in a small Kansas town that looks suspiciously like Langley.

Until now, Smallville, the Great White Hope of the fledgling WB network in the U.S., has only been available to those viewers who subscribe to pay TV or are hooked up to a satellite dish.
