March 23, 2001: Justice League: The Animated Series Details

A handful of details about the highly anticipated Justice League animated TV series have made their way onto various websites over the past day or two.

World's Finest News has posted a list of production details covering different facets of the coming series as follows:

  • Bruce Timm is currently in Korea visiting the animation shop that will be handling the JL series.
  • Storyboards of the pilot has been completed and is ready to be shipped overseas to begin production.
  • November WILL be the premiere date.
  • The crew behind JL is still unsure whether the show will air as an hour ot 30 minutes. It does look like it'll be in a prime-time slot, though!
  • There will be episodes focusing on specific characters. A Wonder Woman episode is currently in the works. An Aquaman episode is expected, and a Green Lantern episode has already been greenlighted.
  • There will be a sub-plot throughout the season, behind each epic battle, that will lead to a big finale.
  • The Injustice Gang? Maybe.
  • The series will take place in roughly the same universe as [The New Batman-Superman Adventures].
  • And finally...New voice cast revelations:
    • Phillip LaMarr (Static Shock) - Green Lantern
    • Carl Lumbly (Batman: Sub-Zero)- Martian Manhunter

    The site also reports that the secret identity aspects of the characters, like Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, won't be a part of the coming series. Instead, the program will focus on superheroics within epic stories.

    Meanwhile, the Comics Continuum spoke to LaMarr about his take on the developing program. La Marr revealed, "I am playing Green Lantern in Bruce Timm's new Justice League for Cartoon Network. We're a few episodes in and it's great! ... We even did an episode where I got to say the oath."
