Kerth Awards

February 14, 2001: Lois & Clark Fanfic Kerth Awards

Do you enjoy Lois & Clark fanfiction? How about awards ceremonies, i.e. Oscars, Grammies, Golden Globes? If so, the annual Lois & Clark Fanfic Kerth Awards are for you!

What exactly ARE the Lois & Clark Fanfic Kerth Awards? After many years of reading and writing about their favorite Lois and Clark characters, the loyal FoLCs (Fans of Lois and Clark) decided that having an awards ceremony would be a fun and terrific way to honor those Lois and Clark fanfiction writers who have written stories that have moved and inspired readers over the years with their talents, and have done such a tremendous job of helping to keep fan's love for Lois & Clark alive.

So in the spring of 1998, the Kerth coordinators organizied the whole thing, and the fans put together a list of fanfic nominees and soon after voted on the best stories in each of a couple dozen categories. Then, to reveal the winners, they had a huge group of brave and dedicated FoLCs volunteer to put together the first annual Lois & Clark Fanfic Kerth Awards ceremony, which was held on-line in March on IRC! Upwards of 70 people turned out for the ceremony, and everyone had a great time! In fact, everyone enjoyed it so much that they've been doing the Kerth Awards each year since then!

The Kerth Awards ceremony is held annually on IRC on a Saturday near the end of March, and is attended by people from all over the world, including the UK, France, Australia, Sweden, Israel, Brazil, Canada, America, and many, many other places! But the awards ceremony isn't the only way to participate! Since these Kerth Awards are fan driven, it's up to the fans to decide which stories of the past year they've enjoyed the most, and then they nominate them. Nominations pour in for the first two weeks in February, and is then followed by a fan voting process in early March, complete with automated ballot. Fan support is their biggest asset, as nothing would be done without the help of so many enthusiastic volunteers.

So join in the fun and feel a part of a wonderful, friendly fan community! For all the details, visit the official Kerth website. Listed there is a schedule of dates, list of eligible stories, detailed history of past Kerths, etc.
