Justice League Adventures

August 8, 2001: Animated Justice League News

Rich Fogel, story editor/producer of Cartoon Network's upcoming Justice League animated series, told The Comics Continuum that he has seen a rough cut of the pilot movie.

"All I can say is that it's amazing," Fogel said. "It's thrilling to finally see all these great characters interacting.

"When we see them working together for the first time, my inner geek screams, 'Yes!' I hope the fans will feel the same way."

The 90-minute, three-part first episode is called "Secret Origins," and is written by Fogel and directed by Dan Riba and Butch Lukic. It marks the first time that the show's seven Justice Leaguers - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Flash and Martian Manhunter - come together.

The Justice League pilot will air Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. (ET, PT). New half-hour episodes will air Mondays at 8:30 p.m. (ET, PT), starting Nov. 19.

In related news, the first issue of DC Comics' Justice League Adventures comic book will sport a cover by Timm and painter Alex Ross and will arrive in stores on November 14.

The series will have different creators and will feature standalone stories.

The first issue is written by Ty Templeton, with art by Min S. Ku and Dan Davis.

Here's how DC describes the issue:

"The JLA faces a deadly alien threat! When a meteor lands in an American suburb, the League is called on to investigate. Soon they are drawn into an intergalactic conflict, but it seems as if the real threat may be one of their own -- Green Lantern! Our heroes' adventures may be over as soon as they've begun!"

Justice League Adventures #1, edited by Dan Raspler, will be 32 pages and will cost US$1.99.

DC also provided The Continuum with a cover for a yet-to-be determined issue of Justice League Adventures. It is the same image DC promoted at its booth at Comic-Con International.
