Smallville

October 17, 2001: Media Frenzy Over Smallville's Debut

As you can imagine last night's premiere of "Smallville" has resulted in a whole swag of media articles. Here's a list of all the latest articles I've managed to locate:

  • "A Hero in the Making" by Howard Rosenberg, Times Television Critic.
  • "TV Gal Gets Swept Up In Superman's Cape" by Amy Amatangelo (Zap2It.com).

  • "Smallville's Lex: Hair Today Gone Tomorrow" (TV Guide).

  • "A Boy Assumes His Super Role" by Noel Holston (Newsday.com).

  • "'Smallville' Looks Strong" by David Bianculli (Daily News Online)

  • "Breakout: 'Smallville' star Tom Welling" by Robert Bianco (USA TODAY).

  • "'Smallville' has a good chance of flying high" by Robert Bianco (USA TODAY).

While World's Finest News reports on how well "Smallville" rated...

"Smallville" gave TheWB the best numbers for their network for Tuesday, raking in a very impressive 6.7/10 rating. This means close to 10 million people tuned in to watch the adventures of Clark Kent in his home town. Smallville gave the network their best Tuesday ratings of the night and put them in 4th place behind NBC, CBS, and ABC. TheWB placed ahead of FOX and UPN.

"Smallville" took a big chunk out of TheWB refugee, which suffered a massive drop from last week, only pulling a 2.8/4 rating, less than 4 million viewers. Not only did "Smallville" beat "Roswell", but it is also pulling numbers higher than "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" which aired in the same timeslot over the past few years on TheWB.

The bigger challenge comes next week when WB will see if "Smallville" will keep attracting the high numbers.

Thanks to World's Finest News for the ratings information.
