Animated Justice League

August 22, 2001: Corey Burton on Justice League Voice Cast

ToonZone News reports that one of animation's most prolific voice actors, Corey Burton (voice of Brainiac on SUPERMAN: TAS, Invisibo on FREAKAZOID!, and General Norman on BATMAN BEYOND, just to name a few) recently shared this JUSTICE LEAGUE insider bit on his official site from a recording session for Cartoon Network's highly-anticipated upcoming series:

Yeah, I know it's obnoxious and 'showbizz-y' to name-drop, but I can't help but be amazed at the group of fantastic actors I recorded with this week for WB's new JUSTICE LEAGUE animated series. The cast for this double-episode story includes: Jeffrey Jones, Michael McKean, Stephen Root, William Katt, David Naughton, Carl Lumley, George Newbern, Ted McGinley, Phil Lamarr, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jennifer Hale. If not for my long experience in this business, I think I might have been paralyzed being surrounded by so many people who I've long admired as a true Fan. I want to express a Great Big THANK YOU to voice-director Andrea Romano for a great and memorable session! (I played the part of DR. BLIZZARD, a Mayor, and an Ice Cream Truck Driver. ...watch for it next season)

Corey also shared in a July phone conversation that he was told they were considering having Brainiac appear in Justice League, but he wasn't sure it would work out. However, JL writer Rich Fogel at the San Diego Comic Con said, "Corey would like that to happen since he's the voice of Brainiac. [laughs] But we're talking about it - he may show up again. I don't know if it will happen this season or next season, but we used Corey in the pilot - he did great... as one of the aliens."

"What was really interesting," says Fogel, "was that [Corey's] entire part was written in an alien language. I wrote... these weird words for him and he just came in and sat down and did it like he was just doing any part and it was letter-perfect." Fogel said he was very impressed.

Fogel included news on two additional JL guest stars which have not yet previously been reported: "We've had lots of really cool people coming in. We have Julie Bowen (who was on 'Ed') playing a renegade Amazon, [and] Susan Sullivan (from 'Dharma & Greg') plays Hippolyta, Wonder Woman's mother."
