Michael Rosenbaum

October 5, 2001: "Smallville" Media Watch

According to KryptonSite, Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor in "Smallville") will be appearing on "The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn" in the U.S. on Wednesday night, October 10th.

While in other news, "Smallville" is included as part of a feature in the U.K. sci-fi magazine, Dreamwatch (Issue #86 - Nov. 2001). The article takes a look at the new science fiction television series airing this season, including Smallville.

The "Smallville" section features great quotes from actors Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), and Sam Jones III (Pete Ross), who talk about their characters.

Tom Welling says, "Here he [Clark] is able to do these things, but no one else can do them. He is a teenage kid, but he doesn't really have anyone to turn to and say, 'Look at that - look at how cool that is.' He just can't go out with his buddies and say 'I can't hurt myself. Let's go to the top of that building and jump off."

Michael Rosenbaum talks about how his personal experience is nothing compared to what Lex Luthor had to grow up with. "I was a short kid in high school, I started puberty late and I was insecure. That was bad enough, but imagine being insecure and bald while dealing with your father's repulsion towards your baldness. That can create a lot of pent-up hatred -- something which may ultimately contribute to Luthor's eventual transition into darkness."

While Sam Jones III said this of his character, Pete Ross, "In the Superman comic book, Pete is a white character, so I feel very privileged to break down a barrier. Instead of being the cool, hip black kid from the inner city, this guy is raised on a farm, he's very intelligent and extremely energetic."

Issue #86 of Dreamwatch is now at newsagents in the UK, and should be hitting the United States in the coming weeks. It has two covers available, one with Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and another with Scott Bakula from Enterprise. Or you can order issues of Dreamwatch online.
