April 25, 2005: 1st Annual Shuster Awards in Canada

April 30th, 2005 - 4:30pm - National Trade Centre, Hall F, Toronto ON

Canada is about to get its own award recognizing outstanding achievement in the creation of comic books: the SHUSTER, named after pioneering Toronto-born artist Joe Shuster (1914-1992) who, along with writer Jerry Siegel, created the iconic super-powered hero, Superman.

The award ceremony will be held at the National Trade Center (CNE Grounds) Hall F, Toronto, Ontario @ 4:30pm.

Comic book fans have cast their votes nationally via ballots at comic book stores across the country, online via a web site and through ads run in the Toronto Star.

The award ceremony will be hosted by Rob Salem (Toronto Star, Drive-In TV) and Rick Green (The Frantics, Prisoners of Gravity).

The Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards will also induct a select group of Canadian industry pioneers into its Hall of Fame. Jerry Robinson, who worked with Joe Shuster in the same studio in the early 1940's, will present the first Hall of Fame award for Joe Shuster to Joe's sister, Jean Shuster Peavy at the ceremony.

Jerry Robinson is the President and Editorial Director of CartoonArts International Inc. and Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate (CWS) which syndicates, licenses, and exhibits the work of 550 leading cartoonists and graphic artists from over 50 countries. Robinson began his cartooning career on the Batman comic book, for which he created Batman's arch-nemesis, The Joker and named Batman's side-kick Robin.
