November 7, 2001: Updated DC Collected Edition CD-Rom Coming

According to Newsarama, DC Comics announced this week that on Wednesday, November 14th, each of the top 2,850 retailers in the U.S. and Canada will receive a free copy of the DC Comics Collected Edition Library CD-ROM Version 1.1, with an additional 150 copies going to retailers in the U.K. This updated version of the disc follows up on the original version 1.0, which made its debut July 22nd at Comic Book Expo 2001. Since that time two new titles have been added to the disc - Batman: Evolution and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights - while several typographical errors have been eliminated.

According to DC, the CD-ROM catalogues top-selling titles from all of DC's imprints, and includes Diamond Star Codes, ISBN numbers, prices, talent listings, editorial descriptions, a printable color cover image, and three color preview pages of the books' contents. In addition, the disc has limited interactive capabilities. Users can compile their own checklist of titles and print out a list to facilitate shopping. The disc includes the Comic Shop Locator Service number as well the address for the Comic Shop Locator Service page on the Diamond Comic Distributors web site.

A consumer version the CD-ROM will be available as a free giveaway with a special edition of the 10th printing of The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes trade paperback, which reaches stores at the beginning of December. This edition of the book features a cover blurb that reads, "Free Inside - CD-ROM Preview with 400 pages from DC Comics' bestselling books!"
