August 28, 2001: Loeb Talks Pecheco and JLA/JSA

In an interview with Newsarama, Jeph Loeb explained he and Carlos Pacheco have been talking for months about their up-coming projects.

"The JLA/JSA project was his love and I encouraged him to chase it down as hard as he could," said Jeph. "As a fan, I want to see it. And as his friend, I wanted to see him do it. But, a project like that takes someone who is as knowledgeable about all those characters as can be. Having just finished Our Worlds At War, I know what it's like juggling more than a dozen characters and so, while I was flattered that Carlos asked me to join him on another great adventure, I chose to instead suggest another friend who is a true rising star in the comic book writing business, Geoff Johns."

"Geoff's run on JSA is the reason folks are buying that book and he'll be a great match. Now, I don't know if DC had the same idea at the same time or if I was the inspiration, but however it happened, (if it happens because I understand that this is not a done deal), it will be great!"

For the record, DC and Johns declined to comment on the possible project.
