March 7, 2001: SuperSummit 2001 - The Year to Come in Superman Comics

The following information was posted on the DC Comics Message Boards by Jeph Loeb (writer on "Superman"), regarding the immediate future of the Superman comics books. As many of you will know, each year the Superman Comic Book Creative teams get together to discuss the up-coming year. Here's what Jeph Loeb had to say:

"Toward that end, the Superman Summit was... well, Super. There is not much I can spill (such as me), but to tell you that for those of you who are enjoying what MC2 (Ed McGuinness) and I are doing on Superman, you'll be enjoying it well into our 3rd year as we have both agreed to stay on through August of 2002. MC2 is doing his darndest to get out 10 of 12 issues in the coming year -- and it won't be lack of trying. If we DO have to have art fill-ins, we'll try and make them as special as we can. Me, you're just stuck with! And you heard it here first!

In the coming year you'll be seeing more single issues, some linkage, some cross-company stuff that is originated by us, some not, some NEW villains, the return of some old ones and... to the best of our ability, the wrapping up of A LOT of those "dangling" plot threads... but as some of you have already guessed, the beginning of some new ones.

Just around the corner, you know there will be the Return of Mongul (and his much talked about twin sister Mongal), the fate of Warworld, Pluto (not the dog), Krypto (the dog), B13, The Eradicator, the truth about The Daily Planet, the truth about Frank Rock, some Strange Strange Visitor (no typo), Ma and Pa Kent... the return of a much requested Major Villain in a major way...

...and at long last, Imperiex -- once and for all."

Further to this, in a recent conversation I had with Joe Casey (writer on "Adventures of Superman"), he tells me, "Next year is going to blow the doors off everything that Superman fans have held dear for the past 15 years!" He didn't want to give away any secrets, but ventured far enough to say, "Readers haven't seen ANYTHING yet!"
