September 12, 2001: Diamond Comics Distributors on This Week's Comics

Diamond Comics Distributors released the following information to retailers Tuesday evening.

"Due to the events in New York City and Washington D.C. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, many shipments for this week (and, possibly, next week) will be affected.

At this time, the following information is available:

  • All shipments that move via the airlines have been delayed. This includes Hawaii, Alaska, and all International accounts.
  • Marvel First Look packages have been delayed. Customers normally receive this packages on Thursday, and Diamond will attempt to deliver these on Friday, September 14. However, this may not be possible.
  • UPS service to all "unaffected" areas is business as usual for ground delivery packages only. There will be major delays in New York City and possibly surrounding areas in New York state. We expect a statement from UPS regarding New York operations on the morning of Wednesday, September 12, and will update customers as soon as possible.
  • Customers serviced from the Baltimore Distribution Center who are in a 1-day Ground Zone will have their shipments delayed by at least 24 hours. Baltimore Pick-up customers will also be delayed by 24 hours.
  • Shipments scheduled to arrive during the week of September 17 in both England and Los Angeles may be delayed as well, since these locations receive merchandise via air freight. Diamond is currently making alternate arrangements (avoiding the NYC airports) and will provide further information by Friday."

Diamond promised more information as it became available.
