June 20, 2001: New Superman Costume?
With the release of the DC Comics Solicitations for September, fans have been very animated over what appears to be a new look for the Man of Steel...At this point in time the new look appears to be nothing more than black replacing the familiar yellow in the "S" symbol on Superman's chest.
Why the change? When will it happen? The Superman creative team are keeping information about this change close to their chest. The "When?" is Superman #174 where the change FIRST appears. The "Why?" is unknown at this stage but speculation is running wild amongst Superman fans.
The solicitation text for Superman #174 states: The aftermath of "Our Worlds at War" has taken its toll on the Man of Steel. Superman returns to Smallville in order to restore the Kent farm, but he can't shake the terrible feelings inside him. Will Superman hang up his costume for good?
Why does Superman make this change? Will it be permanent? What role do Lois and the Kents play in the change? All these questions and more are open to speculation and discussion. Join us in the Superman Homepage Message Board as we bounce our theories and opinions off of one another.
