October 2, 2001: DC Comics Benefit/Tribute Project

According to Newsarama, while DC Comics has yet to make an official announcement of a benefit/tribute project in recognition of the events of September 11th, as most fans and professionals are aware, the publisher has been in the process of assembling creators and material for their contribution to relief efforts.

Newsarama has obtained a copy of a letter DC sent to industry professionals describing their early plans and the kind of contributions they are seeking.

According to the letter, their benefit project is being created in conjunction with Dark Horse, Image, and other publishers, along with support from Quebecor (printers), Diamond, and Wizard Magazine. The format is yet-to-be determined, with the current possibilities being a separate volume sold as a set (which seemingly would include DC's book along with the previously announced project(s) by Dark Horse, Oni, Image, Chaos! and Top Shelf) or a "book within a book", containing all the material this group of publishers gather.

DC describes their "creative goal" with the project as, "We aspire to use comics to reach people. To tell tales of heroism, and the ability of the human spirit to triumph over adversity; To extol the unique virtues of the American dream, and its inclusive way of life; And to recall that the price of liberty is high."
