August 9, 2001: Action Double-Team

Newsarama reports that DC's Action Comics is getting a 2-for-1 when it comes to new pencillers.

While the publisher previously announced that Pascual Ferry would jump from Superboy to Action Comics, and replace Kano as the series regular penciler beginning with issue December's #786, Duncan Rouleau, one of the men of "Man of Action" announced that he too would be the regular penciler on Action. As it turns out, Ferry and Rouleau will share duties on the series for the foreseeable future.

"It'll be about casting - who fits the role or issue best," Superman editor Eddie Berganza said. "If we have a crazy, whacked out Joker story coming up, I wanna see what Duncan's fertile imagination can do with that. And anything with Zod falls into his area as well. Since he is our new, mysterious bad guy's designer.

"A story with cool architecture in space or Metropolis is a job for Pascual! I say make it look like Akira to a lot of people. He makes it happen and goes beyond it. I'm really lucky to have both of these guys available - their new take on the DC characters is so cool, it adds to our already impressive roster of artists."

And while Action Comics will be the primary home for both Rouleau and Ferry, Berganza said the two may show up throughout the four monthly books as needed. "Naturally, the dreaded deadline doom will also play into effect, and that means that they could wind up helping on one of the other books as well," Berganza explained. "But that's not a bad thing at all. The fans will be assured good art where the "S" marks the spot!"
