Adventures of Superman #596

July 26, 2001: Superman After the War

The Comics Continuum report that after the "Our Worlds at War" saga concludes, fans can look forward to a different pacing in DC Comics' four monthly Superman titles.

"After the War, one of things we want to do is, because you guys have been great and have bought just about everything Superman, we're going to separate the books," editor Eddie Berganza said at Comic-Con International last weekend. "For six months at least, of where the books are going to be stories unto themselves."

"And a lot of those stories are going to be self-contained, one-off stories as well," Superman writer Jeph Loeb said. "The story will start and end in that same issue."

The writers say the separation has nothing to do with any discord amongst them.

"With this group of guys, it's a blast doing these things," Adventures of Superman writer Joe Casey said on the interlocking stories. "I don't think anybody has any horror stories, but I think we all want to go our way for a bit, and then we'll get back."

"We let the story determine what the best format is to do," said Superman: Man of Steel writer Mark Schultz.

Look for the books to re-link probably next summer as the creators say they're starting to plan the next big event.

"It is a game of 'Can you top this?'" Loeb said. "But what we have in mind is pretty out there."
