August 31, 2001: DC Comics Diamond Retailer Summit Press Release
DC to Preview "Smallville" and "Justice League" at Diamond Retailer SummitsRetailers attending the 2001 Diamond Retailer Summits will be treated to a screening of the pilot episode for Smallville, one of the fall season's most eagerly anticipated new shows, which makes its television debut October 16 on The WB network. A trailer for the show, which focuses on a teenaged Clark Kent, before he adopted the heroic identity of Superman, was previewed at DC's booth during Comic-Con International: San Diego and Wizard World Chicago to enthusiastic fans, freelancers and retailers.
DC also will present a preview of Cartoon Network's new Justice League animated series from Warner Bros. Animation (makers of the acclaimed Batman and Superman animated series). The show will introduce millions of viewers to some of the core heroes of the DC Universe, such as Hawkgirl and the Martian Manhunter, when it premieres in November.
In addition to these showings, DC offers cardstock Justice League string-handle tote-bags and Justice League logo lapel pins to the first 400 retailers visiting the DC booth at each event. Plus advance black-and-white copies of upcoming projects, and show specials on select DC backlist titles and DC Direct items.
DC's Bob Wayne, Vice President - Sales and Marketing will do a 20-minute presentation highlighting DC's retailer support programs and upcoming DC projects. Also, Wayne, along with other attending DC staffers, will conduct Tabletop Discussions at all three events on the topic: Using reorders to maximize sales.
Said Wayne, "The Diamond Retailer Summits are designed for maximum interaction between publishers and retailers. I always look forward to the constructive feedback we receive from our retailers at these events."
