July 22, 2001: "JLA/Avengers" at San Diego Comic Con

A report by Newsarama highlights some of the major points to come out of the JLA/Avengers panel on Saturday at the San Diego Comic Con:

The plot for issue #1 has just been approved. Perez had drawn 9 of the 2000 pages, which will be 192 interior pages and 4 wrap-around covers...

So far in the first seven pages, character appearances which Perez has drawn include Arkon, his wife Thundra, The Thunderers, the Weaponers of Qward, the Crime Syndicate, Eternity, and the JLA - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Plastic Man, Kyle Rayner Green Lantern and Wally West Flash. Terminus also appears, but not as the story's main villain.

"I've having a ball obviously," said Perez. "And I just found out there are more members of the JLA that I didn't even know about."

"I want this to be something that will put Crisis to shame in terms of number of characters."

Perez figured in Crisis he drew 516 characters, and so far in issue #1 he can figure there'll be about 100 charactersŠ so he'll have to make-up ground in the last 3 issues.

The villains in the story will be pre-existing one, no new villains are being created for the story.
