JLA/Avengers

August 6, 2001: JLA/Avengers Update

According to the Comics Continuum, George Perez said that he is "having a ball" thus far drawing the JLA/Avengers crossover.

"For me, this is a dream many, many years in the making," Perez said during a panel at the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego, where he appeared with writer Kurt Busiek and editors Mike Carlin and Tom Brevoort.

"I've just recently found out that there are a lot of members of the JLA who I never knew were members of the JLA. That's good. Who the hell is Bloodwynd? I want to know. Who the hell is Aztek? I want to know. There were the (Keith) Giffen years, the (Dan) Jurgens years, look at all these faces I wasn't aware of. This is going to be a fun book.

"I want this to be something that will put Crisis to shame."

Perez said he had penciled seven pages before leaving for San Diego, and gave the fans a preview of what was on them.

"So far in the first seven pages alone, Arkon, Thundra, the Grand Vizier, the Thunderers and Weaponers of Qward, The Crime Syndicate -- Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Johnny Quick and Power Ring), the Grand Master, Eternity -- and somebody with the initial K that I can't mention anything further," he said. "Finally, the Justice League make their appearance as of pages 8 and 9. To let you know who's already been drawn, we have Superman, we have Wonder Woman, we have Batman, we have Aquaman, yes we do have Plastic Man, we have Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner's version of course, Flash/Wally West, and in a surprise appearance with the JLA, Terminus," he said. "Now, for who don't know who Terminus is, he's a big sucker villain. He is also not our main villain. He is going to be one of many people who may be coming through the door of this story. We just want to give you an idea of how big this story is going to be."
