Adventures of Superman #600

November 20, 2001: Mike Wieringo Leaves "Adventures of Superman"

World's Finest News reports that Mike Wieringo has decided to leave his position as penciller of "The Adventures of Superman" comic book.

Marvel officially confirmed on Friday that Mark Waid will be taking on the writing chores of the "Fantastic Four" comic title, and joining him will be penciller Mike Wieringo. Wieringo has confirmed that his final issue will be the double sized "Adventures of Superman #600", hitting shelves in January 2002. Comic Newsarama caught up with the artist and he had this to say:

"I was comfortable, but when the opportunity came up, and I had to choose between Adventures of Superman and [Marvel Comics's] Fantastic Four, I had to go with the Fantastic Four," Wieringo said. "I've always been a Marvel guy anyway, and love the Marvel characters. So when they offered me the book - and I couldn't believe that they did, I just couldn't say no."
