October 17, 2001: Adventures of Superman Hits 600

Newsarama published a report/interview about the up-coming milestone in Superman comics. Here's a small excerpt from that article:

In January 2002, Adventures of Superman will ascend to rarified air when DC publishes its 600th issue, just the third title in American comics to reach that milestone (DC's Action and Detective Comics are of course the current longest running series, both in the high 700s). The series began life in 1939 as Superman, and Adventures of Superman took over its numbering in 1986 when DC launched a new Superman series with a #1 issue.

To celebrate, January's issue #600 will be a 64-page special, featuring a lead story by the regular creative team of Joe Casey and Mike Wieringo, and a number of extra features.

According to editor Eddie Berganza, the lead story deals with a criminal mastermind appearing in Metropolis, which forces Superman to confront Lex Luthor "in a very different manner than we're used to, and that's saying a lot considering how he's had to deal with him lately as President."
