July 21, 2003: JLA News from the San Diego Comic Con

Sunday's DC Panel focused on the "World's Greatest Super Teams" with the following information coming out about the Justice League...

A six-issue story will make up the next major arc for the JLA title. Titled "Trial By Fire", the arc will have the JLA comics published bi-weekly, and will tie-up all loose ends from "The Obsidian Age" run.

JLA #83 will start single-issue fill-in stories with art by Chris Cross. The single issue stories will happen between major story arcs. Six of these single-issue stories are planned, and they will connect loosely to form their own arc. Issue #83 will feature Superman.

Look for a resolution to the Wonder Woman/Batman romance in issue #90.

Rotating creative teams appears to be the plan for the title according to JLA editor Mike Carlin. Carlin said that brining in rotating creative teams for separate JLA arcs will keep the title fresh. The first arc, #91-#93 will be written by Denny O'Neil and feature art by Tan Eng Huat. The second will be the previously announced Chris Claremont/John Byrne arc, and will run from issue #94-99. Look for future arcs from: Bill Willingham, Gail Simone, Dan Slott, Howard Chaykin, and Killian Plunklett.

A new team, Justice League Elite, will spin off from the regular team and series with issue #100, and will exist in its own twelve issue maxiseries, running parallel to the regular series. Joe Kelly will write Justice League Elite, with Doug Mahnke on art. Kelly said that the series would be darker and edgier than the regular JLA.
