Superman/Batman #7

December 23, 2003: Pat Lee Talks “Superman/Batman”

Newsarama have conducted an interview with Pat Lee, Dreamwave co-founder and President, and artist on an up-coming work on "Superman/Batman" #7. Here's a portion of the interview...

Q: You're very busy these days, from Transformers: Generation One to Superman/Batman, Devil May Cry and doing covers for Marvel's Unlimited X-Men. So, let's start with DC. How did you land the gig on Superman/Batman?

A: It all started, on one sunny day when... joking. What happened was that our Creative Director, James McDonough, asked me what were my thoughts on working on a Superman/Batman issue, since he had spoken with Ed McGuiness about the possibilities earlier. Ed mentioned to James and he thought it would be really cool if I tried penciling an issue. I was so excited about working on it and it was only one issue as well.

So, I spoke with Ed and he totally hooked me up on this project. Ed is such a great illustrator and is seriously one of the coolest guys I know out there in the industry. So Ed gave me some "DC digits" and I hooked up with Eddie Berganza, the Superman/Batman editor and we were ready to rock and roll. It's such an honor to also work with Jeph Loeb, he's one of my all time favorite writers and it was great to have worked with such talent.

Q: And were you a fan of the characters as well?

A: Absolutely! I was always a huge fan of Batman especially and grew up on a lot of the DC/Marvel books when I was younger.

Q: How would you define Superman?

A: I'd personally describe him as very bold and intimidating yet humble.
