January 15, 2003: Jeph Loeb Talks “Superman/Batman” Comic

The Pulse website caught up with Jeph Loeb to talk about the up-coming comic book series "Superman/Batman". Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: How hard is it to separate the Clark Kent you're working on in Smallville from the Clark Kent in Superman/Batman?

LOEB: Totally different and yet exactly the same. (laughs) Smallville is an interpretation of Superman that is wonderfully successful, has some of its inspiration from (Loeb and Tim Sale's) Superman For All Seasons, and, thanks largely to Executive Producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, a life totally on its on. Believe or not, a large part of our audience either doesn't know that Clark is going to become Superman or doesn't care. This is a story about an adolescent boy coming to terms with great power and a destiny he doesn't know. Even the portion of the audience that knows that destiny all that does is give the show another layer to it -- it still has to work on its own. In the comics, Clark has already made that journey. He's a hero now, a husband, and a figure who everyone else in the DCU looks up to. So, both of the characters are valid, they are just at two different life points.
