Superman/Batman #6

December 8, 2003: Loeb Talks “Superman/Batman” and “Smallville”

The Pulse website have conducted an interview with super-scribe Jeph Loeb, asking him about his work on the comic book series "Superman/Batman" and also on the TV show "Smallville". Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: What are some of your upcoming plans for Superman/Batman?

A: I can only tell you that Pat Lee has done a story that features Robin and Superboy that will resonate through the next arc with Mike Turner. The Turner arc is so... well, I guess, surprising.... I think people will be very, very happy not only with the look of that book -- but with the outcome. It's pretty wild stuff. After that both McGuinness and Carlos Pacheco will be up and -- good gosh -- that's going to be hard to top. Great fun...

Q: How do you balance working in comics with working on TV like Smallville?

A: Um.. Badly? (laughs) In simplest terms, I work at Smallville from 9-7pm. It's a lot of work, but it's also my dream job. I mean, I get paid to tell Superman stories all day long. It's a complete giggle.

I then either go home and write after dinner until the wee hours or I go to the studio/office I share with Geoff Johns. I can only get there at night and on the weekends, but he has such an amazing work ethic that he often sticks around and we can just b.s. about comics and swap stories. He's been a wonderful help getting me through some plot points that would have taken time I don't have. What a pal!
