January 14, 2003: Schultz Talks “Superman vs Darkseid”

The Comicon.com Pulse website has published an interview with "Man of Steel" writer Mark Schultz, discussing the end of the Man of Steel comic book title and his up-coming "Superman vs Darkseid" special. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: Darkseid has long been a thorn in Superman's side. What makes this battle in Superman vs. Darkseid different from their previous encounters?

SCHULTZ: I guess to put it in simple Hollywood parlance: "This time it's personal." For the first time of which I'm aware, Superman is taking the battle to Darkseid-- is actually calling him out-- because a friend's soul is at stake. This is about deciding how far you are willing to go for a friend-- and you'll see here that Superman is willing to risk intergalactic repercussions. Superman is very proactive in this story-- he organizes an assault on Apokolips.

Q: Which members of the Superman Family help him in this battle?

SCHULTZ: Let's see-- quite a few-- Superboy, Supergirl, Kara Zor-El (making her first actual acquaintance with her idol), the Eradicator, Steel, Natasha Irons, and Krypto. Oh, yeah-- and Kelex.
