Superman: Last Stand on Krypton

March 11, 2003: Wheatley Talks “Last Stand on Krypton”

The Pulse website have conducted an interview with comic book artist Doug Wheatley in which he discusses his work on both "Superman: Last Son of Earth" and the up-coming sequel "Superman: Last Stand on Krypton". Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: What made you want to work on Superman: Last Stand on Krypton?

WHEATLEY: I did the "Superman: Last Son of Earth" books and, before they were finished, I made a commitment to do the sequel with Andy Helfer and D.C. comics, I had not read the script since it wasn't available.

Q: What did this project offer you creatively that others didn't?

WHEATLEY: When I read the script, a smile crept across my face, Steve really went to town! I love designing worlds, getting right in there so that in the end, I feel like I'm there, the first two books stayed within the continuity of the Superman property except for one tiny twist, a hook as Andy would say. Last Stand explodes into a genetic hybrid of earth and Krypton, a Sci-Fi super horror that was filled to the brim with new takes on previous characters in the series, and yet there was still room to revisit a lot of Krypton's history, the pre-Byrne era. We brought back some of the Silver-Age designs and ideas of the future to play with and interpret. It was a fantastic project to work on.
