November 27, 2012: Pinoy Superman in Guinness World Records
While I know a few American collectors who might like to dispute this announcement, Philippines Superman fanatic Herbert Chavez, also known as “Pinoy Superman,” has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as having the Largest Collection of Superman Memorabilia in its 2013 edition.
- Chavez first made it to the news in the third quarter of 2011 via ABS-CBN news shows for undergoing 13 plastic surgery procedures just to look exactly like Superman. In an interview aired on “Bandila” Thursday last week, he said that it was this exposure that led representatives from various international news organizations and Guinness to contact him.
According to a VTR aired prior to his “UKG” interview, Chavez started collecting Superman memorabilia in 1990. His collection reportedly has now reached more than 5,000 pieces, ranging from simple stickers and pillows to framed posters and life-size figures. From this number, however, Guinness has only documented 1,253 licensed items.
