January 23, 2012: Superman Statue Planned for Cleveland Airport

Cleveland Display Cleveland.com reports that a large Superman statue is set to be constructed in Cleveland, the birth place of the Man of Steel. The display, which was put to the City Council by the Siegel and Shuster Society, will be positioned within the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport near the baggage retrieval area.

The most striking feature of the display, designed by Studio Graphique, will be a larger-than-life Superman statue, a perfect place for tourists to be photographed. It will pay tribute to the late creators as well as their creation.

It will be arranged in an open room across from the baggage carousels. A wall-hugging display will feature the familiar Superman logo with the words "Greater Cleveland's greatest hero" and "Did you know Superman was born in Cleveland?"

"We want the display to become a point of interest," Olszewski said. "We want the phrase, 'Meet me at Superman,' to become a common saying at the airport. About 80 percent of the visitors at the airport will see it."

The project is expected to cost between $40,000 and $50,000. Superman fans can help out with the fundraising by sending donations to the Siegel and Shuster Society, 7100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 44103. The society's funds are managed by the Cleveland Foundation.
