January 24, 2012: Metropolis Theater to be Restored
The Massac Theater, an historical landmark in Metropolis, Illinois, is set to be restored thanks to Larry Thomas Ward, best known to Superman fans as Noel Neill's friend and biographer.Larry Thomas Ward bid $15,000 to purchase the building, with the city's Council accepting the proposal to reopen the theater as a fully-functioning movie house and performing arts theater, with plans to hire 5-7 employees year round.
The first step is to replace the dilapidated roof by July 31.
Larry, who is a good friend of the Superman Homepage, told us, "I've been in talks with the City of Metropolis about the Massac Theatre since last summer, finally culminating in the approval of the sale yesterday. I've always liked that building, and sort of hoped someone would save it. Didn't figure it would be me, but that's how things work out sometimes."
