October 24, 2012: RIP Superman Homepage Staff Member - Peter T. McDermott
It is with great sadness that I report that long-time Superman Homepage staff member Peter T. McDermott has passed away.Peter's son Jeremy informed me today that his father passed away Sunday in a motorcycle accident wearing his Superman T-shirt.
Having joined this website as a staff member in November 1996 (only days after I took ownership), Peter wrote the vast majority of our "Superman: The Animated Series", "Justice League" animated series, and "Smallville" episode guide summaries. Due to health issues he kindly asked if someone else could take over the "Smallville" write-ups at the end of Season 9 in 2010.
He loved Superman and was very dedicated to the Homepage. In an email he sent me in 2002 he proudly signed off with: "Peter T. McDermott, mild-mannered reporter for the best damn Superman web site in the world!"
Having celebrated his 62nd birthday in late September, Peter was the proud father of two children (Jennifer and Jeremy), and grandfather to numerous grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends.
In a 2001 email he sent me a list of the numerous jobs he'd held at one time or another: "Surveyor, Photographer, Retail Clerk, Truck driver, Writer, Actor, Slitter Operator, Labor Union Shop Steward & Committeeman, Computer Technician, Housekeeper, Father, Unrepentant child who refuses to grow up, and lastly, a bum. Those are the highlights. I feel a person should be well rounded as you can see. My ambition is to be a successful writer when I grow up."
You were a great success in our eyes Peter. You'll be missed... Rest in Peace.
