July 8, 2012: Superman Conquers "The New York Times Book Review"... Again
An illustration of Superman by Christoph Niemann appears on the cover of today's (July 8, 2012) edition of The New York Times Book Review. The drawing illustrates "Man of Action," James Parker's review of Larry Tye's great new Superman biography.It's interesting to note that this is not Superman's first appearance on the cover of The New York Times Book Review. A Curt Swan drawing was used to illustrate a review of five comic book-related titles on September 5, 1976.
Also interesting is the viewpoint expressed in the 1976 article by its author, Leslie A. Fiedler, which is that comic book circulation figures were falling and comic books "will not survive." Isn't that what some people are saying today as well?
