March 4, 2012: Superman Fan Wins Mid-South Spelling Bee
Eleven year old Coleman Swartzfager, wearing his lucky Superman hooded sweatshirt with Superman T-Shirt underneath, won the 69th annual Mid-South Spelling Bee on Saturday.
- The fifth-grader from Bell Academy in Bolivar County, Miss., said he procrastinated when it came time to prepare for the competition.
"To be honest, the first few weeks we had to prepare, I didn't study very hard," Coleman said. "And in the final week, I just studied as much as I could."
But when presented with the final word in the Bee, "decile," after 27 rounds against 49 participants, Coleman answered with all the confidence of the Man of Steel and punched his ticket to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington in May.
