"DC: Women of Action" Hardcover by Shea Fontana
Published by: DC Comics (October 2019)Reviewed by: Steve Younis

Author Shea Fontana, who has written for the "DC Super Hero Girls" animated shorts and graphic novels, as well as comic book stories for "Justice League," "Wonder Woman," and others, announced via Twitter in August that her new hardcover publication "DC: Women of Action" was about to be released.
"So excited to announce that my latest book," she wrote. "DC: Women of Action, will be out this fall! Featuring 50+ profiles of female characters and women behind the scenes, plus lots of new art and interviews from women and non-binary creators."
The attractive hardcover publication is a great addition to any DC collector's bookshelf. For Superman fans the "Metropolis" section includes Supergirl, Powergirl, Lois Lane, Silver Banshee and (interestingly) Killer Frost.
Each character's profile runs between two and four pages long (depending on the popularity and longevity of the character), with historical information on their origins, story and impact on the DC Universe as a whole. Most pages include quotes from creators on how they were first introduced to the character and the impact said character had on them, both personally and professionally.
The pages on Supergirl and Lois Lane are really well written, and all profiles contain illustrations that have been created specifically for this book.
Other than Metropolis, the other sections of the book include Themyscira, Gotham and Beyond, along with a Behind The Scenes section which profiles the female creators at DC Comics who have worked at the company as either writers, artists or editors. Some familiar names include Patty Jenkins, Jenette Kahn, Nicola Scott, Gail Simone and Louise Simonson.
The "DC: Women of Action" hardcover book is now available from Amazon.com.
