Superman/Batman #8

March 18, 2004: Kryptonian Translation of “Superman/Batman #8”

SPOILER WARNING!! If you haven't yet read "Superman/Batman #8" and don't want to have the ending spoilt for you, then look away now, as I am about to translate a whole page of Kryptonian conversation from this book.

...

Towards the end of "Superman/Batman #8" (on sale now), Superman and Batman meet a young woman speaking Kryptonese. To save you the trouble of translating exactly what was said during this conversation I have translated it for you here...

Superman/Batman #8

    Panel 1...
    Girl: "You... You speak Kryptonese."
Superman: "I do. The question is... why do you?"

    Panel 2...
Girl: "I... speak this language because I come from the planet Krypton."
Superman: "Really. Krypton was destroyed years ago -- and everyone on it."

    Panel 3...
Girl: "Not everyone. My uncle was head of the Science Council. He tried to get them to understand the planet was unstable, but they wouldn't listen."
    Superman: "Your uncle?"
    Girl: "Yes. My Father's brother."

    Superman/Batman #8 Panel 4...
Girl: "He built a space ship -- a prototype intending to send his entire family, but I think time ran out. My father was also a scientist. He believed his brother and built a similar, but larger spacecraft, following the same coordinates."
Superman: "Your uncle. What was his name?"
Girl: "Jor-El. He and my aunt Lara had a son, Kal-El."

    Panel 5...
Superman: "I am Kal-El. Jor-El was my father."
Girl: "Then... I made it. I made it! But... you were just a baby and... oh, I don't care... I have family here. I'm Kara. Kara Zor-El."

A big thank you to Superman fans Shane McNichols and Eddie Caro from the "Daily Planet Online" website for allowing me to use scans from their website.
