February 12, 2004: Jim Lee Talks Superman
The Pulse website interviewed Jim Lee about his up-coming 12-issue stint on "Superman", aswell as asking him about other work in his career. Here's an excerpt from the interview...Q: How are you trying to alter the way Superman is perceived by the general comics buying public with this run? With the Batman story I think, even if he wasn't totally in control, we saw a more human Batman, one who let his heart rule for at least a little while...
A: It's primarily Brian's call on that one. I just draw what he outlines out in his scripts. This Superman does seem more human to me but not in the way he has been in the past. I know some people have seen the Wizard preview and wondered how this take differs from versions in recent past. A brooding Superman is interesting to me. A whiny, self-doubting one isn't. Brian's Superman is heroic in ways most of us can only imagine to be. But he is still human in heart and can mean being distraught but still strong. Somber yet still decisive.
Q: Is your Superman story one continuous twelve-parter or composed of smaller arcs. If its smaller arcs, care to give us some info on what each part is about? If it's just one long saga, which of the rogues will show up in it?
A: It's certainly one long story but it seems there are mini-arcs there-within. As far as rogues, it is our intent to create as many new ones as possible. Which doesn't preclude the story from having a lot of familiar faces show up. I think readers will be pleasantly surprised as to who shows up during the series and why. OK I gave away too much already right there [laughs].
