October 19, 2004: DC Comics Pay Tribute to Christopher Reeve

Many people criticized DC Comics and Warner Bros. for their lack of reaction in the wake of Christopher Reeve's death. Today the following message appeared on the DC Comics website...

All of us in the Warner Bros. family are deeply saddened by the passing of Christopher Reeve, not only for his unforgettable work in front the camera on the Superman films and, more recently, his memorable appearances on Smallville, but most of all for his tireless efforts on behalf of all those affected by paralysis. His dedication to others, as well as his own courageous battle, will remain an inspiration to us for years to come.

DC Comics President and Publisher Paul Levitz said: "We'll miss Chris for his friendship and for his wonderful portrayal of our character. In the last years of his life, he gave new depth to what being a Superman can mean."
