January 12, 2004: Three Supermen Rumor False

Jim Lee, in wrapping up his week-long Jim Lee-A-Rama at the Newsarama website, has taken time to answer questions emailed to him by fans. Below are a couple of the Superman related questions and answers. One debunking the rumor we reported on earlier this week about each of the Superman comic book titles being about an alternate Superman continuity. Read on...

Q: Do you think that they should update Superman's costume? Why or why not? Thanks.

A: I don't think they should make any real changes. I feel every artist has the right to tweak minor elements to any costume and there are many characters who change costumes with every latest fashion fad or decade, but Superman is the granddaddy of all superheroes. His costume is classic. His costume is Superman. I say keep it as pure as possible. True blues, reds and yellows. Embrace it rather than try and hide it. Say nay to those who want to change it. If Superman doesn't look cool, it's not the costume's fault - it's the artist's.

Q: Hi Jim - I only want to tell you that I am very happy with you on Superman, but I have a question. It is true that your run along with the other writers and artists will be based in three different Supermen?

A: This is a very odd rumor, but it is untrue. There is only one Superman but creative teams may tackle stories that are not all happening at the same time. Make sense?
