War of the Supermen

December 11, 2009: Marc Guggenheim to Write "Action Comics" in 2010

DC Comics has made another announcement about Superman comics in 2010, with Marc Guggenheim coming on board to write "Action Comics".

Part of the sea change hitting the SUPERMAN titles begins next summer, as ACTION COMICS welcomes writer Marc Guggenheim as the new, regular writer. Guggenheim, as most of you know, has a slew of television and film credits, not to mention work on comics, including FLASH. But what's his take on Superman going to be like? Well, don't ask us. Ask Marc:

"One of my earliest memories was reading - not even reading, just looking at the pictures, actually, as I was too young to read - Action Comics. It's an enormous thrill and a humbling thing to write a comic you literally grew up reading. When D.C. called, I understood how President Obama must have felt when the Nobel Committee called him. Now I just have to work hard not to screw it up."

MTV's Splash Page interviewed Marc Guggenheim about his new gig as writer on "Action Comics". Here's an excerpt from the interview...

MTV: With everything going on in "War of the Supermen," is the plan for "Action Comics" to offer an alternative to the main "event" book - something a little "quieter" or simpler, maybe? Will "Action Comics" provide the venue for making sense of how the over-arching event specifically affects its main character's universe, like many regular series tend to do during crossovers?

GUGGENHEIM: I wouldn't say quieter, but the phrase I keep using is "back to the basics." I really want "Action" to be pure, classic Superman. For the last year, Superman has been off on New Krypton and it's been a major change to his status quo. I'm hoping that by the end of the "War of Supermen" event I'll be able to tell some true and classic Superman stories.
