Poll Position

September 25, 2009: Poll Position - Wednesday Comics

By Steve Younis.

Looking at the tally so far for our Member Poll question "How would you rate the Superman 'Wednesday Comics' strip?", I find it somewhat astonishing that the largest percentage of people who have voted in the poll so far are people who "Didn't read it, don't plan to".

I could understand this result if it was purely a comic book you had to purchase. After all, comic book readers only make up a small percentage of Superman Homepage members.

But the Superman strip in the "Wednesday Comics" publication was made available for FREE via the USA Today website! To read all 12 strips you didn't have to make a purchase, you didn't even have to register with the website, you simply had to click on the link and the Superman comic strip was yours to read free of charge.

It's not like it took that long to read either. It's a comic strip. It took all of 30 seconds to read each Superman strip, top to bottom.

Okay, it wasn't a fantastic story, but the artwork was some of the best I've seen. But (Barry's reviews aside), you wouldn't know whether it was good or bad unless you tried it, and the majority of people who voted in the poll say they didn't check it out. I don't get it!

Perhaps members who voted "Didn't read it, don't plan to" can enlighten me. When given the opportunity to check out a Superman comic strip online for free, why did you decide not to read it?
