Superwoman

January 29, 2009: Superwoman Speculation/Replacements for Superman Pondered

A series of articles in the last few days explore the phenomena of replacement heroes, in the wake of the revelation that Superman will be taking a leave of absence from the Action Comics title.

Newsarama interviewed Sterling Gates, current writer of Supergirl. When asked about the secret identity of the mysterious Superwoman, several candidates were mentioned including Thara Ak-Var, Karsta War-Ul, Alura, and Lucy Lane. Gates notes regarding Thara:

    As her oldest friend, Supergirl trusts her completely and will even turn to her for advice. However, as we saw in Supergirl #37, their relationship can be at odds when it comes to Alura's orders. Maybe she'd put on a mask so she could operate in secret, outside of Alura's reach..."
